Chrystian, new dad to Jayden, NICU patient
"It was my birthday dinner and they were about to sing 'Happy Birthday.' Cassandra got me my favorite Oreo cake! But right before they were going to sing, she said, 'My water just broke.' I thought she was joking because baby Jayden wasn't supposed to come until next month."
"When he was born, we saw his chest heaving so fast. I had never seen a chest expand and contract like that before. We knew something was wrong. They took him away to do a bunch of tests and found he had a heart murmur. He had to travel alone in the ambulance to Packard Children's, and I came by myself because Cassandra was still in the hospital recovering. But I knew this was the best hospital because I came here when I was a kid."
"Everything helps. We have our own room to sleep in at the hospital so we can stay near Jayden while he's in the hospital. The social worker gave us free meal vouchers. Every little bit helps because we don't have a ton of money that we can spend right now."
